Vision is the ability to identify, interperet and understand what is seen; eyesight is merely the ability to see. One's eyesight may test normal on standard eye charts, yet visual skills may be seriously impaired. Dr. Taddei offers a comprehensive eye exam that tests your eyesight as well as your vision. Some visual problems cannot be treated adequately with just glasses or contact lenses and are best treated through a program of Vision Therapy.
Vision Therapy is a series of individually tailored exercises that strengthens all aspects of vision and enhances our ability to learn, reason and problem solve. Vision therapy is a very effective remedy for many common visual problems inlcuding nearsighteness, farsightedness, double vision, eye strain and fatigue. Vision Therapy also treats the visual issues that contribute to learning disabilities. Dr. Taddei addresses visual function in order to maximize her patients' visual comfort, concentration and performance at work, school and play. Additionally, Dr. Taddei specializes in vision therapy for treatment of binocular vision disorders, strabismus, amblyopia and visual information processing/developmental delays.
Even survivors of stroke and traumatic brain injury have been able to "retrain the brain" and regain their mobility, independence and self-confidence through a program of Vision Therapy! |
Eighty percent of learning is through the visual system. According to the Better Vision Institute, school eye screenings generally miss 70-80% of children's vision problems. Undetected vision problems may cause a child to dislike reading, resulting in learning difficulties, slow performance or fatigue. Visual problems can cause a child to be labeled as "slow" or even ADD.
It is important for the child (or adult) to realize the cause of their reading problem. Early detection is extremely important in addressing a proper multi-disciplinary team approach to treatment. We have specialized equipment to evaluate exactly what your eyes are doing while you read.
Recently the National PTA formally recognized the link between vision and learning in a published treatise.
Meanwhile, Dr. Firmon E. Hardenbergh, M.D., F.A.C.S., the Chief of Opthalmology at Harvard University has issued a statement in support of Vision Therapy:
"Application of orthoptics to all learning/reading disabled or deficient children...should be the first line of therapy."
