Reuse, Recycle, Redecorate: At Michael's we believe that there are many shades of green. Selecting to reupholster your old furniture instead of buying new is one step towards being green. Using organic or sustainable fillings on the furniture frames or in the cushions is another. If we are building your furniture new, we can either use Alder, Poplar ( hardwoods that are farmed in Oregon) or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified woods for the frames. Michael's has been a leader in the California upholstery industry, using green and sustainable products for over fifteen years. Whether building new furniture and cushions or reupholstering your old furniture, we offer the option of organic and sustainable cushion fill, padding and fabrics. Every time you select to recover your furniture instead of throwing it out and starting new, you are making a "green" choice. Inexpensive, foreign made furniture is temporary furniture. Inevitably, you will throw it away after it wears out, contributing to your local land fill. New Furniture: Perhaps you aren't a designer, but you know what you like. You haven't found the right furniture at the stores or design center. Maybe you saw something in a magazine that you thought was perfect for your home but you can't find it in a store. Bring us the picture and let us create it for you. At Michael's we can duplicate or design any style or piece of upholstered furniture. Michael's new upholstered furniture is made from solid hardwood (Alder from Oregon). Our frames are corner blocked, screwed doweled and glued. We apply eight-way hand tied springs, burlap and foam, cotton and Dacron to pad the frames. Our cushions are made with the highest quality of foam, Dacron and down/feather blends. Your new furniture will be custom made just for you. We offer a "sitting" for every piece, inviting you into our shop to test sit the furniture before we upholster it. Any adjustments in the padding are made to satisfy your personal level of comfort. We then upholster the furniture to complete the project.

Michael's Custom Built makes cushions and pillows in every size, shape and style. We offer a variety of different thicknesses and densities of poly foam as well as latex or down blend cushion inserts. We have a large selection of indoor/outdoor acrylic Sunbrella fabrics. The Sunbrella brand fabrics are intended for use in outdoor seating areas, sunroom upholstery and cushions for inside and out. Sunbrella fabric is also widely used for kitchen seating areas because it is easy to clean. The Sunbrella fabrics are inherently water, mildew and fade resistant making them perfect for our sunny California interiors and gardens.
